Programming designed specifically for you, Genius.

Program one

Motorsports

Ages 11-18

Created as “Ghetto Genius Motorsports,” the Street College Motorsports program exposes youth to diverse engineering principles through radio-controlled cars, drones, and other state-of-the-art kits in an environment with low barriers to entry. Youth are learning high-level skills that lead to various career opportunities, as well as soft skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, community-building, and task management, with the hope of becoming positive examples in their neighborhoods.

This program has multiple tracks and levels for all stages of education. It begins with prefabricated builds, whether LEGO sets or RC car kits, that expose youth to various areas of engineering and allow them to experience quick success in putting together projects that would otherwise seem out of reach. This activity increases youth confidence in their technical abilities and begins the process of students tapping into their inner genius, from right where they are.

Program Two

Musicology

Ages 11-18

SC Musicology focuses on the pillars of Hip Hop, merging STEM/STEAM principles that extend beyond the creative process and encompass the technology and skills involved in an immersive music experience. Using various hardware and software, we teach youth how to produce music activations, incorporate movement, mix sounds and beats, and troubleshoot intricate boards and equipment. This program is designed with clear progress markers such as peer-to-peer, virtual, and in-person demonstrations, making student development simple to facilitate.

The DJin’ Experience is a Musicology demonstration that focuses on the fundamentals and exposure to the technique and is where every DJ begins. Youth are taught deejay methods, history, beat-matching, blending, and how to perform for their peers by nationally recognized DJ Silkee. SC Musicology provides youth with the tools and confidence they need to become successful entertainment professionals.

Program Three

Media

Ages 11-18

Heavily inspired by Dr. P’s involvement with Illinois Public Media and WILL-TV, SC Media focuses on producing various forms of content, including podcasts, TV/Online projects, and community-driven documentaries for advancing underserved 7communities. We provide youth with practical skills in audiovisual production, storytelling, and multimedia creation, while coaching them on the tools to express their ideas and creativity. Youth progress is demonstrated through their understanding, writing, and completing media projects.

The SC Media Scholars also collaborate with multiple organizations that enhance the SC Musicology and Motorsports training. Whether it’s songwriting, a performance, or a video screening, youth promote ideas about sustainability, civic engagement, and what it means to be a 21st century student. They discover new talents and interests, build on existing skill sets, in hopes that their work encourages families to get “into the mix.”
